Q. How can physical therapy help me?
A. Our physical therapists evaluate you to identify the source of your pain or problem. A treatment program is developed that will usually involve some form of manual therapy and exercise, as well as modalities if needed to treat the problem areas. You will also receive instruction in a home exercise program, as well as education about your condition and what you can do to improve your condition.
Q. What do I need to do to get started?
A. To schedule, call us at our south location (in the Peak) at 251-2323 or at our north location (behind Johnny Carino’s) at 542-6256. We will need your name, insurance information, and whether your injury is work related. Then we will schedule your appointment. We can often see you within 24 hours of your first call--and sometimes even on the same day.
Q. Do I need to see my doctor before I go to physical therapy?
A. Not always. Although our physical therapists work closely with area physicians, people in Montana can access the services of a physical therapist without a prescription from the doctor. This gives you direct access to our services. Realize, though, that many insurance companies still require that you have a prescription from your doctor prior to beginning physical therapy. If you have any questions, check with your insurance carrier or contact our office for additional information.
Q. Does insurance cover physical therapy?
A. Medical insurance generally covers physical therapy treatment. However, each insurance plan is different. You can check with your insurance carrier to determine your coverage. Or call us at today, and our staff will be glad to assist you in determining your insurance benefits.
Q. What will I do on my first visit?
A. Please plan on coming 15 minutes before the start of your first appointment to complete your new patient paperwork which includes information about your injury, current situation, and pain scale. If you prefer, you can download these forms and fill them out in advance by clicking on the “Forms” section of our website. Be sure to bring your physician's referral, your insurance card (if applicable), and wear comfortable clothes. You will be evaluated by a licensed physical therapist. Your time together will enable your therapist to get to know you and your condition. Each person’s situation is unique, and your care plan will be set up just for you. For future visits, we ask that you schedule two weeks out and let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to make your scheduled appointment.
Q. How long does a typical session last?
A. Plan on up to an hour to an hour and a half on your first session. Follow up sessions run between 30 and 60 minutes. As your program develops, you may wish to spend additional time enjoying your new exercises with the equipment in the Peak Health and Wellness Center. Or you may want to relax in the pool or hot tub. Either way, you’ll finish up with your therapy session within an hour and will have the freedom to stay around and enjoy the Center afterwards.
Q. What about unexpected/unscheduled treatments if I feel I need one?
A. We prefer to schedule appointments in advance. But if the need arises and you feel that you need an appointment right away, simply call us. We’ll do everything we can to accommodate your need. And although your main physical therapist may not be available, there’s a good chance that one of our five physical therapists will be able to see you immediately.
Q. If I'm more comfortable with a female or male physical therapist, is it possible to choose?
A. Yes. We want you to be comfortable with your physical therapist. Please let the receptionist know your preference when you call in to schedule. We have a good mix of male and female physical therapists at Alpine, so we will accommodate your request.
Q. What is an appropriate age for a child to see a PT?
A. We employ two physical therapists who specialize in treating children. Our pediatric physical therapy program is open to children of all ages.
