Welcome to Her Health, Missoula’s top choice for physical therapy services for women.

HerHealth

People are often pleasantly surprised when they learn about all that physical therapy has to offer in the area of women’s health. Certainly this isn’t an area that all physical therapists pursue with focus and passion. Yet several of our physical therapists have been inspired to provide excellence in these services through the leadership of Her Health’s program director, Tara Mund, DPT.

Tara has long had a special interest in focusing a great part of her career in meeting the health needs of women. With her spirit and genuine caring leadership, she has fostered others on our team to do the same. The result? Alpine is now recognized by doctors and clients as a leader in the provision of physical therapy services for area women.

When you need physical therapy services that are expressly designed for women, we invite you to experience Her Health. You can expect caring and compassionate help from our trained physical therapists who understand your condition. And our clinics lend themselves to a positive experience in view of the healing atmosphere they engender.

We know that every woman is unique, as are each of the services available with Her Health.

Osteoporosis

Based on a thorough evaluation, one of our Her Health physical therapists will work with you to create an appropriate and safe program that includes cardiovascular and weight-bearing exercises, balance training, along with flexibility, strength, and endurance training. We also cover ideas on nutrition and safe exercises for improved posture and structure. You’ll gain a solid understanding of the steps, choices, and exercise strategies that you can take with you for a lifetime of better bone health.

Prenatal & Postpartum Rehabilitation

Hormone changes during and after pregnancy make women more vulnerable to injury and numerous painful conditions. It is with this understanding that Alpine’s Her Health team is able to treat this population with consideration and expert care. Through our emphasis on core strengthening and joint stabilization, we are focused on building the strong foundation needed for busy moms and moms to be. Postpartum women are in need of guidance to deal with numerous body changes and issues that occur during pregnancy. In addition, individualized instruction on safely returning to exercise postpartum is important part of avoiding the return or exacerbation of injury.

Pregnancy-Related Low Back Pain

The causes of low back pain during pregnancy are very individual and can be numerous. Through an individualized evaluation performed by one of Alpine’s Her Health physical therapists we can get to the bottom of your pregnancy-related low back. Possible solutions that we may provide include core strengthening, postural re-training, instruction in sleep position modification, manual therapy, fitting for a prenatal pelvic support brace, pelvic floor training, and instruction on a safe prenatal exercise program. Also, water exercise and Pilates feel good on a pregnant woman’s body. Thus, we take advantage of our knowledge of aquatic therapy and Pilates to help provide a safe alternative to your pre-pregnancy exercises.

Pilates-Based Rehabilitation

Alpine’s philosophy of rehabilitation is strongly supported by our use of Pilates in the rehabilitation process, along with the fact that our entire team of physical therapists is certified in the provision of Pilates rehabilitation. Incorporating this approach into our Her Health program has made a big difference in the comfort and health of our clients. Along with providing a comfortable way to improve muscle strength and flexibility, Pilates focuses on pelvic floor and abdominal wall strengthening, vital steps in successfully treating low back pain as well as several forms of incontinence.

Aquatic Therapy

Working in a pool puts less stress on your joints than exercising on land. The warmth helps relax muscles, and the buoyancy allows for easier movement during exercise. The pressure of the water around your joints can reduce swelling, particularly in the joints of the legs and feet. A supportive, warm-water environment in aquatic therapy is sometimes the best place to start for people with pain as it allows them to begin moving and exercising without aggravating their symptoms.
