Ahh. The warmth and fluidity of water. Imagine the feel of exercising while keeping your pain at a minimum. Your joints and muscles stay relaxed as you move and exercise in the pool with ease.
It puts less stress on your joints than exercising on land. The warmth helps relax muscles, and the buoyancy allows for easier movement during exercise. The pressure of the water around your joints can reduce swelling, particularly in the joints of the legs and feet.
A supportive, warm-water environment is sometimes the best place to start for people with pain as it allows them to begin moving and exercising without aggravating their symptoms.
At our clinic at the Peak Health and Welness Center, Alpine’s physical therapists often work with their patients in our Olympic-sized pool. When needed, patients access the pool with a conveniently located patient lift chair. When your aquatic workout is over, you can sit and relax in our large and comfortable therapeutic hot tub.
When you are scheduled for the aquatic therapy program, be sure to bring a bathing suit with you to your session. Know that you can wear a T-shirt while exercising. As an Alpine client, you’ll receive a towel and locker to use during your aquatic therapy sessions. |
