Ahem, Missoula sports fans! A note from the dusty Captain’s Log. Here is some news-worthy-yet-slightly-delayed-BIG=event-local-sports-news you might have missed in the popular press. While the fires burned up Western Idaho and gave our fair valley town an apocalyptic grey hue this fall, the Alpine Physical Therapy soccer team coughed and scored their way to the Missoula CHAMPIONSHIPS! Granted, this was Co-Rec C-League, but it was the first time our motley mix of superstars and under-novas had a shot at the highly-acclaimed champion title. We could have been the 2012 contenders! We lost by a cheap point, but we had an awesome kick in the grass getting there. This year we had two new sideline baby mascots, Charlie Schmidt and Logan Vap, who were certainly inspiring young additions to the team. Sam Schmidt (formerly Sam Schoeneman) and her husband Carey provided baby Charlie (bottom left of team photo) and Angela Listug-Vap & her husband Mitch provided wee baby Logan (not pictured).
Fielding a team of 11+ soccer players during the busy summer-come-autumn months is never a consistent, predictable, or easy task for a captain, but team Alpine PT was fortunate to have a dearth of willing and available soccer talent to draw from our fine community. The C-Leaguered (but not too B-leaguered) team has been playing together in some randomized incarnation for three years. Without question, 2012 was the year we had it all: the mojo, the defensive tenacity, a goal keeper that wasn’t afraid of bringing his hockey skills out of the penalty box into soccer’s 18-yard penalty box, and the offensive passing game to get on the top score board. Thank you to the Alpine PT management team for sponsoring our team for the third year in a row. We are dearly appreciative to have a generous team sponsor to bring together a great crew for after-work, co-recreational fun and team work. Watch out Missoula . . . in 2013, Alpine PT’s “C-Leaguered” is coming back! Signing off . . . for now: Captain PT, Brace Hayden
